The Book Of Daniel
written at Thursday, April 23, 2009

I have never studied Daniel in such depth before. The only 2 things I knew about the book of Daniel or anything related to him in the Bible was...

1. He was thrown into a lions den and the lions did not eat him.
2. His friends were thrown into a furnace and survived.

As you can see that was merely what came to mind when I thought of the book of Daniel. Well finally, I am studying the book in depth together with a couple of us at precept on Thursday nights. And I am excited!

Today was the first lesson where we went through an overview of 6 chapters of Daniel and I am already motivated to soak in more of what the word of God shows me.

Who does your resolve centre around?

In these few chapters we will learn about a man named Daniel who displayed such a sterling example of integrity and wisdom. In the midst of testing, where do you stand? It was clear for Daniel, he sought to obey God and his statutes and for that God delivered him from times of trouble. His 3 friends too, displayed such faith and obedience during trials, God also delivered them from the furnace.

But the question will come? The what ifs? What if God does not deliver me for my obedience? The word "What if" is one of the devil's favourite weapons to burden us and confuse us. This is the response of the 3 friends when they were told to bow to to worship the statue...

"If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king."

"But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up."

SUCH POWER IN THEIR WORDS! They have learnt to trust in God, they have learnt that God is fully in control even in what seems to be such bleak conditions, and yielded their bodies so as not to serve or worship any god except their own God. Can we learn from this?

The sovereign, true and just work of God is revealed to us more and more as the chapters go by. In these chapters, you learn more and more about the CHARACTER OF GOD.

Even King Nebuchadnezzar of the Babylonians replied at the end of Chapter 4,"Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, exalt and honour the King of heaven, for all His works are true and His ways just, and He is able to humble those who walk in pride."

His dominion is an everlasting dominion.
His kingdom endures from generation to generation.

Do you want to know more about Him?
