What Is Your World View?
written at Thursday, May 7, 2009

world·view
n. In both senses also called Weltanschauung. (Word of origin)
1. The overall perspective from which one sees and interprets the world.
2. A collection of beliefs about life and the universe held by an individual or a group.

This is the definition of world view that I have obtained from the on-line dictionary.

Today's lesson at precept on the book of Daniel covered so much of the history of Israel and Judah, with Judah going through many stages of sieges by the Babylonians and Israel held captive by the Assyrians. During these sieges, these pagan nations bring their pagan gods along with them, making all those held captive bow down and worship, also to eat the choice foods which were used as offerings to their gods.

This is no similar to the present day modern age isn't it? It may be a different environment, but we're still living in an ungodly world. We are exposed to ungodly pressures everyday, in our schools, in our workplace and in the marketplace.

Daniel had a God centred world view, he would not settle for foods offered to the pagan gods (it was not Kosher), he ate vegetables and drank water instead of the wine. From this example alone, we see his resolve and where his allegiance lies.

So then comes the question, who do you give your allegiance to?

There is a lot I have learnt from Daniel only 3 weeks into the study. I am excited to learn more! How we all should aim to be Christians with a Godly integrity!

For those of you who happens to be named Daniel, have you ever wondered what your name meant? Daniel means "God is my judge".
