New Mobile Phone Service Provider! Woohooo
written at Wednesday, August 12, 2009

This post only applies to those in New Zealand :)

For almost almost a decade, Vodafone and Telecom New Zealand have been hogging the air waves with their duopoly. With no government intervention to issue price ceilings, they have controlled the mobile phone market rates in New Zealand. They have been charging insane prices for their services. For example, an average phone call from one mobile phone user to another would cost almost $1/min and each text message would cost 20cents.

Many have been crying out for a price reduction but the two companies would not listen. Furthermore, they do not show any sign of reducing their rates, much to the dislike of many Kiwis. My friends, your complaints have been answered.

Take this Vodafone and Telecom, may this be a big slap on the face for you. The introduction of a third mobile phone service provider! It's called 2Degrees and they're charging much less for their services, everything is almost half price.

I guess we can't really compare these rates to that of Singapore or any of the asian countries for that matter, but the introduction of this new player in the market would definitely bring a sigh of relief to many. Vodafone and Telecom better get their act together before they lose their customers altogether.

Although I personally believe that if I were the CEO of Vodafone or Telecom, with the primary aim of maximizing company revenue, would also have charged expensive rates :D Hehehe....
