To Satisfy Him
written at Tuesday, August 11, 2009

Was reading a the daily devotional by Oswald Chambers last night and this was a really refreshing message. Timely as well. I'll type it here.

Jesus said to her, "Give Me a drink." (John 4:7). How many of us are expecing Jesus Christ to quench our thirst when we should be pouring out our lives, investing our total beings, not drawing on Him to satisfy us. "You shall be witnessses to Me..." (Acts 1:8). That means lives of pure, uncompromising, and unrestrained devotion to the Lord Jesus, which will be satisfying to Him wherever He may send us.

Beware of anything that competes with your loyalty to Jesus Christ. The greatest competitor of true devotion to Jesus is the service we do for Him. It is easier to serve than to pour out our lives completely for Him. The goal of the call of God is His satisfaction, not simply that we should do something for Him. We are not sent to do battle for God, but to be used by God in His battles. Are we more devoted to service than we are to Jesus Christ Himself?

I totally agree, it is so true. The rhetorical question Oswald Chambers gave at the end presented 2 things in my mind when I thought about it. Is service your idol or is Jesus Christ your Lord and King?

It is so much easier to simply just be serving than totally giving up your life in whole devotion to the Lord. Was again reminded of this (from a music ministry perspective) when I was watching a video by Bob Kauflin on "Truth & Music" and I guess I can say it is the same from a musical point of view as well. He mentioned, "The significance of the Son of God coming to earth as a man, living the perfect life in my place. Dying a substitutionary death for me, enduring punishment, enduring the wrath of God against my sins and rising from dead, has only become more Glorious. I will look for music to express the proper response to that reality, but music will never become greater than that reality, the reality will always be more powerful, more meaningful and more life changing because IT IS LIFE CHANGING."

He went on to say, "I love music, as long as I can imagine, but I love Jesus more." Music is just one piece of the whole picture, there are many other forms of service, but the point is that in the service that we bring to the Lord is simply not enough. We are called to pour out our lives to Him. May our Lord be satisfied!
