This Is No Volvo Ocean Race, But I'll Settle For It
written at Friday, July 3, 2009

What an eventful day today! Instead of chilling out on the family sailboat my Dad decided to bring me out on one of the bigger boats he has been sailing with a couple of sailing buddies every Friday. What an experience!

What an adrenaline rush. The crew will be running back and forth pulling the winch and adding tension to the sails, the sails will catch the wind and with such grace, the boat will take off at a decent speed of 7-8 knots. Wonderful isn't it! These races are usually ones which are done for the fun of it. For those who love sailing and want to have an exciting competitive try, these races are for you.

There were families who brought their kids or their dog along to have a fun afternoon out at sea. There was one point where the wind just died down almost completely, this isn't a motorboat race where each individual boat has it's own engine. We're all dependant on the wind, most of the boats including ours were pretty much sitting ducks. Felix, one of the more experienced sailors on board would shout, "I see some patterns on the water surface!" These are the signs that you have to take note off when sailing because they make a difference.

Overall another awesome experience, thanks Dad for taking me out! Can't wait for our little family boat to be ready for sailing again after it's maintenance.
