There is some crazy statistic that I came across that American actually consumes about 1.4 million bottles of water every hour, which means there are 33.6 million empty plastic bottles going to landfills unnecessarily every day. Makes me think twice buying that bottled water.
I have read from Jared Anderson's blog post about coming across an analogy that churches has sometimes become bottling companies for the Spirit of God. We plan the service, harness what the Lord is doing in our lives through what He's spoken to us through others we may have read or encountered that week, package it, distribute this word, the message, or overall sense urgency to our people, or send them on their way.
This is not discipleship but rather co-dependence. We tell people to go but train them to come. To come and stay, stay comfortable where they are. Rather building them up and preparing them to go out there to the world.
But how about this? What if church were a water park of wells? Where water is dripping not only from the stage but all through the room. Where the gathering of believers is a truly that.........a gathering, not a one-way street of delivery trucks to parched mouths.
"We must train people to engage the Spirit of God for themselves and have a personal relationship with the living God and become as invisible as the living God himself. What a joy it would be if people forgot my name, couldn't remember who lead the service that weekend. What if the usher at the door stood out more than the preacher on the stage?" - Jared Anderson
